STUTTGART, CIRCA 1820, PROBABLY AFTER A DESIGN BY NIKOLAUS Friedrich VON THOURET

Each with a shaped moulded padded back and seat covered à châssis in fleur-de-lys decorated vieux rose silk, the cresting carved with floral rosettes and stylised anthemia, on gadrooned and foliate-headed sabre legs. Stamped inventory numbers and "Krongut" brand marks to some of the chairs. Rest., traces of age.

Exhibited on loan as part of the large state exhibition 2013 "In the Splendour of the Tsars" (Im Glanz der Zaren) at the Landesmuseum Württemberg
Almost certainly delivered circa 1820 for the refurbished apartments of William I of Württemberg at the Stadtschloss Stuttgart and thence by descent. According to catalogue entry of Christie’s, recorded
in the Stadtschloss on 6 October 1891.
